Show Your Colours at 2017 HSBC Singapore Rugby 7s The ideal Easter weekend getaway for sports fans and for families
If you are looking for a weekend of world-class sporting action and family-friendly fun at a happening destination, the 2017 HSBC Singapore Rugby 7s on April 15 and 16 must be your ideal getaway for the Easter holidays.
Singapore is one of the ten global cities hosting legs of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series circuit, and the only city in South East Asia with its own annual global rugby tournament. Whether you are a rugby newbie or a fan for life, there’s something in it for everyone!
The HSBC Singapore Rugby 7s is played under the world’s largest free-spanning dome at Singapore’s National Stadium. When the edge-of-your-seat rugby action is paused, spectators can sing-along to a hit parade blasted out by in-stadia DJs, and rock to live music by top local bands and performers – in the company of fans from around the world. You are also most welcome to join the long tradition of attending international Sevens Rugby tournaments in fancy dress.
This year, the two top Asian teams, Japan and Hong Kong, will feature in the tournament’s 16-team line up. But they aren’t there just to make up the numbers. Kenya shocked the rugby world when it won the 2016 Singapore 7s upsetting mighty Fiji in the final. Fiji, the defending HSBC World Sevens Series champions and 2016 Rio Olympics gold medallist, will return as one of the favourites for 2017.
Also, vying for honours at the 2017 Singapore 7s are 12-time series champion – New Zealand, Olympic silver medallists – England, and rugby powerhouses South Africa and Australia. Perineal dark horses Samoa, USA, Wales and Argentina will be hot on their heels, looking to upset the favourites.
Fans are guaranteed lots of hard-hitting rucks and lightning-quick tries from the comfort of the air-cooled seats, yet can also mingle, share a beer or try their hand at rugby-related games at the Stadium’s unique concourse area without missing out on views of the on-field action.
National 7s Rugby teams from Southeast Asia will also be vying for the SEA 7s men’s and women’s titles which starts on April 14, a day before the Singapore 7s kick off. Admission to this important build-up tournament to August’s SEA Games is free. The men’s and women’s finals will be held at the National Stadium on April 15th as part of the HSBC Singapore Rugby 7s.
… and let’s Rumble!
The theme for the 2016 HSBC Singapore Rugby 7s is Show Your Colours, and on each matchday you could join over 30,000 fans gathered from around the world to show their support for their favourite teams and players in fancy dress, with faces painted and carrying outrageous props.
There are designated, alcohol-free, family zones so it’s a safe outing for parents with little ones. And there’s also a kids-drop-off zone where parents can leave their children for three hours, where kids are kept engaged and looked after by professional child-minders in a safe environment.
All ticket holders can continue to party after the final whistle on both days at Clarke Quay – the official After Party precinct located just minutes away, where a fiesta of live music, fantastic food and beverage promotions awaits. Every ticket holder can also avail significant discounts and exciting benefits at tourist attractions and retail outlets across Singapore.
