egtmedia59During the first week of operation, Singapore Airlines recorded an average load factor of just 35% on the Wellington to Canberra leg of its new Capital Express service linking Singapore, Canberra and Wellington.

A newly released International Airline Activity report by Australia’s Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development revealed that, on average, each of the six flights from Wellington to Canberra in September held just 94 passengers.

The flights are operated by a B777-200 fitted with 266 seats.http://www.thavornpalmbeach.com/phuket-luxury-holiday-package/

However these figures do not take into account end-to-end traffic carried between Singapore and Wellington via Canberra, a spokesman from the department told the Canberra Times.

A report in the paper said Singapore Airlines was “pleased” with the number of passengers flying in and out of Canberra.  The report showed more than 3200 people flew in and out of the Australian capital in the week after the new service launched.

Patronage was higher on flights from Singapore to Canberra, with an average of 142 seats per flight occupied (53%). According to the report, the carrier’s strongest performing leg on the new route was the non-stop service between Canberra and Singapore, which notched up a load factor of 68%.

Singapore Airlines ACT manager, Tan Chin Yu said the carrier was pleased with the number of customers choosing to travel on the new service “both to Singapore and beyond with direct connections to UK/Europe”.

There had been a good mix of business and leisure travellers in both the business and economy class cabins, he said.

Last week Qatar Airways said it would be the second international carrier to fly into Canberra.
