Silverneedle® Collection Donates Sports Shoes To School For Life Chiang Mai In Cross-Border Effort

In an initiative bridging two continents, SilverNeedle® Collection this month donated 111 pairs of new sports shoes to the School for Life Chiang Mai, a charity that supports children living in difficult situations in Thailand.

The initiative began in late August, when SilverNeedle® Collection started a campaign to donate shoes on behalf of delegates at Luxperience 2013 instead of offering customary corporate gifts. For every appointment scheduled with delegates to the trade show held in Sydney on 2 – 4 September, SilverNeedle® Collection donated two pairs of sports shoes to the School for Life Chiang Mai. The school houses and educates children who have been affected by AIDS, natural disasters, abused or been forced into child labour. The school provides for their basic needs, offers psychosocial support and medical care.

“SilverNeedle® Hospitality is proud to be part of this effort that not only enhances the children’s well-being, but also brings together two groups that are very important to us – the Chiang Mai community and the Australian travel community,” said Mr Iqbal Jumabhoy, Managing Director & Group Chief Executive Officer of SilverNeedle® Hospitality, which manages the SilverNeedle® Collection. “The best payoff is undoubtedly the broad smiles on the children’s faces when they received the shoes.”

Together with the other board members at Singapore-based SilverNeedle® Hospitality, Mr Jumabhoy delivered the shoes to the School for Life earlier this month following a board meeting at the award-winning 137 Pillars House Chiang Mai. The board and Mr Manfred Ilg, General Manager of 137 Pillars House, hosted lunch for the children after touring the school, which houses 111 children from the ages of 3 to 17.

137 Pillars House – part of the SilverNeedle® Collection – has donated resources and volunteered many hours since it began its partnership with the School in 2012. It is an officially recognised Social Welfare School, with a concept that has been described by the UNESCO as “much needed world-class innovative effort in the field of education” and as a “new standard of educational excellence for the world community of the 21st century”.
