Silversea Expeditions has launched an Antarctica and New Zealand Sub-Antarctic 2014/15 brochure featuring Silver Discoverer’s, inaugural Sub-Antarctic voyages commencing in November, 2014.

image003In addition to Silver Explorer’s 10-day Antarctica voyages, the new brochure offers an alternative a little closer to home. Silver Discoverer’s six Expedition voyages vary from nine to 16 days, with itineraries that combine New Zealand’s charming coastal cities and spectacular Fjordland with journeys to the wild and remote World Heritage-listed Sub-Antarctic Islands.

Karen Christensen, General Manager & Director Sales/Marketing, Australasia, says that the New Zealand Sub-Antarctic itineraries showcase some of the world’s rarest wildlife and unveil the regions’ hidden gems and jaw-dropping vistas.

“Our latest expedition ship, Silver Discoverer, brings our guests even closer to dramatic landscapes and islands, all in the comfort and style that Silversea is renowned for. Our unique voyages provide guests with the opportunity to see remote natural terrains and an abundance of wildlife. With a staggering 126 species of birds found in this region, these exclusive voyages are a bird watcher’s paradise,” says Christensen.

“Whilst on board, our guests will benefit from the extensive knowledge and experience of the Silversea expeditions team, from marine biologists and historians to geologists and naturalists. As Silver Discoverer navigates the World Heritage-listed Sub-Antarctic Islands and guests explore wildlife havens and meander New Zealand’s charming coastlines, our experts will be on hand at all times, to ensure that our guests have the journey of a lifetime.”

The below are a few highlights of Silversea’s New Zealand Sub-Antarctic 2014/2015 voyages.

9419: New Zealand Antipodes & Sub-Antarctic Islands, 22 November 2014

This 14-day cruise aboard Silver Discoverer takes guests from Auckland to Dunedin, New Zealand via some of the most remote areas in the Pacific Ocean. Guests will have the opportunity to visit the world’s largest mainland Gannet colony; spot huge elephant seals, young albatross and the rare Yellow-eyed penguin; hike across the crater of an active volcano and revel in the grandeur of Dusky Sound.  Zodiac tours and nature walks will reveal stunning and awe-inspiring wildlife. Among the highlights is the chance to explore the Antipodes Islands, Sub-Antarctic Islands such as Campbell Island and Enderby Island and The Snares, which remain one of the last near pristine areas in New Zealand.

9420 & 9421: Wild New Zealand, December 2014

Both 16-day cruises on board Silver Discoverer offer roundtrip journeys to Dunedin, New Zealand via Akaroa, Kaikoura and Nelson. Sailing through several remote Sub-Antarctic Islands, Silver Discoverer will visit Enderby Island, Auckland Island and Macquarie Island – Australia’s Sub-Antarctic jewel. Highlights of this voyage include: a journey through Akaroa, travelling to the foothills of the majestic Southern Alps; the opportunity to spot a myriad of animals, such as the smallest dolphin in the world, the Fiordland Penguins and endangered sea lions; and two full days discovering Macquarie Island, Australia’s Sub-Antarctic jewel. This voyage allows guests to explore some of New Zealand’s most unique destinations and experience the rich history of the Māori culture.

9501: Sub-Antarctic Islands, January 2015

This 15-day voyage onboard Silver Discoverer from Dunedin to Wellington, New Zealand will navigate through a number of Sub-Antarctic atolls including Enderby Island, Auckland Island and the Chatham Islands.  Guests will experience the best pelagic birding on the planet, observe elephant seals and witness the awkward flight forays of young albatross and the graceful soar of their elders.
