Singapore Airlines will mark its 50th year of service to Australia on Wednesday 5 April and have partnered with the Margaret River Chocolate Company to help celebrate the occasion.

Every passenger departing any of Singapore Airlines six destinations in Australia on Wednesday 5 April will receive a specially designed limited edition box of Margaret River Chocolate Company chocolates as a thank you gift.

The specially designed box incorporates the Singapore Airlines 50th anniversary logo, the famous batik print and a thank you message.

Singapore Airlines Regional Vice President, South West Pacific, Mr Tan Tiow Kor said Singapore Airlines success in Australia over the past 50 years was thanks to the support of the entire Australian community.

“We began our operations to Australia with just two flights a week to Perth and Sydney and over the past five decades have grown to operating more than 120 weekly flights from six Australian cities,” Mr Tan said.

“This growth, and our longevity in the Australian market, would not have been possible without the support of our customers, the trade and our key stakeholders.

“We are very pleased to partner with such an iconic West Australian and Australian company to provide our customers with a gift on our anniversary to show our sincere appreciation for their support.”

Margaret River Chocolate Company, General Manager, Andrew Thomas, said the opportunity to work with Singapore Airlines and help them celebrate a significant milestone was exciting.

“As an iconic Western Australian brand, The Margaret River Chocolate Company has been delighted to work with Singapore Airlines as it celebrates 50 years in Western Australia,” Mr Thomas said.

“With factories in the Swan Valley and Margaret River wine regions, plus a Perth CBD store, the company has been making award winning chocolate products since 1999 and, like Singapore Airlines, is committed to providing a high quality customer experience.

“Singapore Airlines has brought millions of travellers into Western Australia over its 50 year history and many of them will have visited The Margaret River Chocolate Company during their stay.”

All passengers departing on any Singapore Airlines flight from Australia on Wednesday 5 April will receive one of the specially designed 50th anniversary boxes, which will be filled with the Margaret River Chocolate Company’s award winning milk chocolate pastelles.

Customers departing from Perth and Sydney on Wednesday 5 April will also be treated to special gate hold celebrations to mark the golden milestone of operations to the two cities.

On 5 April 1967, Singapore Airlines launched its maiden flight to Australia with a Comet aircraft that seated 20 First class and 70 Economy class passengers.

The service initially ran just twice a week between Singapore, Perth and Sydney, and set the foundation for Singapore Airlines network in the South West Pacific region.

Fifty years later and Singapore Airlines now operate four flights a day between Perth and Singapore, and up to six flights a day between Sydney and Singapore during peak periods.
