Singapore Airlines today announced that it will increase the number of services between Melbourne and Wellington, and Melbourne and Singapore, from 1 January 2020, subject to regulatory approval.
From the start of 2020, SQ247/8 will increase from four times a week, to five times weekly catering for increased demand and offering customers more travel options.
The new fifth weekly flight will operate from Singapore as SQ247 every Wednesday at 19:45 local time, before arriving in Melbourne at 05:10 local time the next day. It will then depart at 06:50 before arriving in Wellington at 12:10 local time.
The return flight, SQ248 will depart Wellington at 13:30 local time and arrive in Melbourne at 15:25 local time. It will then continue to Singapore, departing at 16:45 local time and arriving in the Lion city at 22:40 local time.
Singapore Airlines Regional Vice President, Mr Philip Goh, said the increase in services would help to meet the growing demand for travel to and from the Melbourne and Wellington markets.
“Since we launched the new Singapore-Melbourne-Wellington flight in May last year we have seen demand for travel on the route grow, for both inbound traffic from our network as well as outbound travel from Melbourne,” Mr Goh said.
“Wellington has proven to be a popular destination for travellers from across the network, as well as Melbourne, while we’ve seen increasing demand for the late afternoon flight from Melbourne to Singapore.
“Increasing our services in to Melbourne and Wellington reinforces our commitment to the Australian and New Zealand markets and we look forward to offering our customers even more options to travel from the start of the New Year.”
The additional flight will increase Singapore Airlines services between Melbourne and Singapore to 33 flights a week.
