According to the latest Global Rankings by the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), Singapore has retained its position as Asia’s top convention city for the 12th year running.

In 2013, Singapore hosted a record 175 ICCA events, a 16.7 per cent increase from 150 events in 2012, achieving the strongest year-on-year growth since 2005. Singapore’s international appeal, strategic location and access to key Asian markets provide a strong impetus for organisers to host their events in Singapore.

The accolade comes off the back of the recent visitor arrival figures, revealing that 1,125,000 travellers from Australia visited the island city-state from January to December 2013, contributing a total of S$1.078 million in tourism receipts.

Sharon Lam, Area Director Oceania of the Singapore Tourism Board, commented: “We are privileged to retain our position as the leading convention city in Asia for the 12th consecutive year. We’re glad that Singapore continues to earn the confidence and trust of meeting planners and delegates.

“Building on Singapore’s strength as an international meeting destination, we want to continue encouraging Australian business visitors to explore all that Singapore has to offer outside of the meeting room.”

Singapore’s year-round calendar of events and festivals will continue attracting more Australian visitors than ever before. 2014 highlights include, the popular Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix (19 – 21 September), as well as the inaugural Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Championship (17 – 26 October), which will be held at the new Singapore Sports Hub. This new venue is set to be one of Asia’s most inspiring destinations for world-class sports and entertainment.

With Australian business travellers seeking to experience more depth to a destination, Singapore’s many precincts allow visitors to become immersed in cultural diversity and experience the best that the city has to offer. From mouth-watering food options, off the beaten track boutique shops and an energetic nightlife, Singapore is an unparalleled destination that offers Australians a rich and colourful experience.
