Singing, dancing, contortion in wild Virgin safety video

November 12, 2013 Aviation, Headline News No Comments Email Email

egtmedia59Air New Zealand has built quite a reputation for its zany and unconventional onboard safety videos – but now it has a major challenger in the field: Virgin America.

Virgin America has produced a dazzler of a video, replete with dancing, singing, music, contortionists, a talented junior rapper and all the fun of the fair. What’s more, you can even audition to star in Virgin America’s next video (provided you’re an American resident, that is, which rules most Aussies out).

The new Virgin America video has been uploaded to YouTube and is so popular that it has notched up over 5.3 million views at last count. So it’s really a form of viral marketing, as well as a safety video. You can view it here:

Directed by Jon M. Chu (whose previous credits include a Justin Bieber music video) the vid took 36 dancers 26 hours to complete. Stars include a contestant from So You Think You Can Dance, plus American Idol semi-finalist Todrick Hall.Virgin America Safety Video #VXsafetydance

As Virgin America puts it in the blurb “buckle up to get down”.

“We’ve enlisted the help of Virgin Producer/Director Jon M. Chu, Choreographers Jamal Sims and Christopher Scott, Song & Lyrics by Todrick Hall, Composer/Producer Jean-Yves ‘Jeeve’ Ducornet, Virgin America teammates, and dance stars like Mike Song and Madd Chadd to give our safety video a new song and dance – literally.

“From the exit doors to the oxygen masks, no seat belt was left unbuckled.”

Americans, or US residents, who want to audition are invited to visit and upload an Instagram video with their freshest moves using the #VXsafetydance hashtag.
