Sir John Eliot Gardiner to return to Monteverdi Tuscany to lead the second Accademia Monteverdiana 20 July – 25 July 2015
Monteverdi Tuscany is delighted to announce the return of Sir John Eliot Gardiner to direct the second Accademia Monteverdiana in the idyllic hilltop village destination of Castiglioncello del Trinoro.
The Accademia will consist of a series of masterclasses by the renowned conductor and culminate in a performance on 25 July 2015 at the Gala concert of the renowned Incontri in Terra di Siena music festival in Tuscany, at which Sir John Eliot Gardiner will make his conducting debut.
Throughout the week, Sir John Eliot will work with 10 emerging opera singers, focusing in particular on the music of Claudio Monteverdi. Marking the transition from the Renaissance to the Baroque, Monteverdi’s work has often been regarded as revolutionary, and has been a passion of Sir John Eliot’s for decades. Since last year’s workshop, a number of the young singers have gained prominence in the opera world and are now appearing in major concert halls throughout the world.
Guests of Monteverdi Tuscany will be granted unprecedented access to observe Sir John Eliot and the singers during selected sessions of the master classes as well as the final concert. This experience will offer guests an incomparable insight into the process of music making, and will allow them to hear how the participants’ performance evolves under Sir John Eliot’s guidance throughout the week. Guests will also have front row access to all performances taking place as part of the Incontri.
The Incontri in Terra di Siena festival (25 – 31 July 2015) is the summer performance venue for some of the most celebrated musicians in the world. The festival will take place throughout the Tuscany region, including La Foce and Castiglioncello de Trinoro.
