A new “no experience necessary” website proclaims that anyone can be a travel agent and earn up to 10% commission. A major travel industry name is at the helm of the operation, reportedly.
The site, Trvl.com, lets people develop, create and market travel itineraries for friends or colleagues.
“Tailor-make trips for others and earn extra income,” it says.
According to TravelTrends.biz, the chief operating officer of Trvl.com is Arthur Hoffman, whose successful career with Expedia included a five-year stint in Australia. Hoffman worked previously for Qantas. In 2014, he was reported to have been appointed chief executive of Sanoma Digital.
Trvl.com co-founder and photographer is Jochem Wijnants, who “moved on to co-found TRVL, sold a company to Apple and now hopes to solve the biggest problem in travel bookings today”, the site says.
“Our team has built a peer-to-peer travel booking platform,” Wijnants writes. “For the first time, anyone can act as a travel agent, helping other travellers book trips and earning up to 10% per booking. That’s some serious money by the way. All you need is time. And if you already happen to enjoy travelling and helping others you’ll be hitting it out of the park!
“The platform is free, no fees or charges apply anywhere. You will find all hotels, flights, activities, transportation, etc on one single screen. TRVL already mapped out hundreds of destinations and handpicked hotels based on quality, location and our wow-factor.”
The Trvl.com site opens with backdrop footage of a native canoeist paddling through steamy, tropical waters. It carries an invitation to add your email address for access, and a note that it is currently in closed Beta mode.
The publicly available part of the site offers “up to 10% per booking” to “tailor-make trips for others and earn extra income”.
“TRVL is a peer-to-peer travel booking platform. TRVL gives you access to all hotels, flights, activities, and car rentals. With your tips and TRVL’s recommendations you help others book their dream-trips. For each booking you receive a commission (just like a travel agent would).”
The site is open about its intentions: “Sign up to be a TRVL agent. Anyone can be a TRVL agent. Really anyone, as long as you are 18 years or older. Signing up only takes a few seconds and it is really easy to get started. It’s free.”
It continues: “TRVL is absolutely free for both TRVL agents and travellers. Even better: you can book your own trips and earn a commission. That is one of the perks of being a TRVL agent.”
Participants are encouraged to create a profile.
“Who can you book trips for? Your friends and family. You can start by helping people you know. Make sure they have the best holidays by tailor-making trips for them. For your business. TRVL is perfectly suited to streamline and control travel bookings of small and medium sized companies. We use it ourselves! How much does it cost? Nothing, you earn a commission on every booking.”
TRVL says it aggregates the best travel suppliers (flights, hotels, activities, transportation) in one platform “which makes it easy to create a trip. No need to switch to any other website.
“After the traveller has completed the trip, TRVL receives a commission. The lion’s share of this commission is passed on to you. Your financial dashboard keeps track of your earnings and payments.”
