The highlight of the season gives resort guests front-line access to nature’s miracle of Green and Hawksbill turtles nesting then hatching on the neighbouring beaches.

General Manager Edouard Grosmangin is confident that the additions of the season will further position Six Senses Con Dao as a prime summer destination, “Guests are looking for getaways packed with excitement and memorable experiences. The best part about turtle s eason is that there is something to entertain and delight everyone.   From an enticing selection of value added benefits to turtle hatchling releases, Six Senses offers guests an adventure that will be remembered unnamed (1)for a lifetime.”

Con Dao is the only place in Vietnam where sea turtles enjoy full national park protection.  Green and Hawksbill turtles come to nest on around one of 13 beaches from late-May to late-October every year.  During this period female turtles come up on the beach at high tide during the night.  It takes an exhausting two to three hours for the female to dig, lay then cover her nest before returning to the ocean.  Two months after nesting, the hatchlings push their way to the surface.  At adjacent Bay Canh Island,  a local guide leads guests to the main nesting beach and turtle sanctuary to hold the hatchlings before releasing them into the ocean.  Photo opportunities are endless, including the unparalleled opportunity to swim alongside the hatchlings.

Six Senses Con Dao will run a competition on their Facebook page, with a grand prize of two nights in a three-bedroom Oceanfront Villa. Open for entries and voting from March 5 to May 15, contestants must submit a photograph containing an animate or inanimate turtle. For those without Facebook, a download link will be provided to ‘adopt a virtual turtle’. Uploaded photographs are available for public viewing and voting throughout the duration of the competition.

Each unique user may vote for a photograph only once, but without limit to the number of photographs voted. The three photographs with the top number of votes will win a two-night stay at Six Senses Con Dao.  During the two-month competition, the resort will donate US$1 per additional page “like” to establish a new Turtle Club – a socially responsible initiative to offer swimming lessons to the community of Con Son Island.  Sharing and posting across platforms is encouraged through use of the hashtag #TurtleSeason.

Vice President of Sustainability Amber Marie Beard at Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas reinforces the premis that conservation begins at home, “Con Dao is one of four marine protected areas in Vietnam.  Providing safe access to the sea is a fundamental step for the community to remain engaged across generations in protecting this national treasure.”
