egtmedia59During a night of food, fun and networking of Skal Chiang Mai on Thursday-September 24 at Tengoku + Yaki Japanese Restaurant on Nimmanhaemin Road Soi 5, guest speakers from “Expertasia Travel” had a spectacular offer for Skal members.

There was a lively presentation of a new niche market travel product by Karen Spackman and Miss Nui, a native Moken, who introduced their exciting package tour “Unseen Khao Sok & Moken Civilization.”

The tour actually starts with an arrival at Krabi Airport and a transfer by road to Khao Sok National Park through limestone cliffs and deep green jungle. Overnight will be in a Tree House at Khao Sok Paradise Resort. On the next http://www.tourismlegal.com.au/day, you take a long-tail boat to the scenic Cheow Lan Lake for sightseeing and overnight in a Raft Bungalow at the Lake Raft House.

On Day 3, you continue your journey to the beautiful Phra Thong Island and overnight in a Bamboo Bungalow at Koh Phra Thong Nature Resort, while on Day 4 you meet your Moken guide to take you to Koh Rah Island, part of the Surin Marine National Park in Phang Nga Province, to make contact with the Moken, also called the “sea-gypsies” of the Andaman Sea. In the evening you have a dinner with your Moken host family and overnight in a Moken Family House (Home Stay!).

The Moken belong to an elusive tribe of sea nomads, which stretches from the Myeik Archipelago in Southern Myanmar down to islands in Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines. Most of the time, they live in small boats and from the products of the sea. The Moken are mentioned and described in the classical book of Hugo Adolf Bernatzik called “The Spirits of the Yellow Leaves.” How many of the Moken live in Thailand is not exactly known.

Finally, at Day 5 of the package tour, which has the special price of 20,000Baht per person for Skal Members, there is a transfer back to Kuraburi Pier and back to Krabi Airport for your flight back to Chiang Mai. The offer is only valid for the period: 1 October to 30 November 2015.
