Partha Chatterjee, President, Skal Club of Bombay, calls it corporatization of the club ever since he took over the mantle in October 2016.

Skal is a professional organization of tourism leaders around the globe promoting global tourism and friendship. Its members discuss and pursue topics of common interest.

The club has 150 members but covering only Airlines, Consultants, Destination Management Companies, Hotels, Inbound Tour Operators, Cruise Liners, Outbound Tour Operators, Reservation systems, Tourism Authority, Travel Agents and Travel Schools.

There is scope to get memberships also from Mumbai Airport, Car Hire, Congress Centers, Golf Courses, Holiday Camps, Medical Tourism, Ports, Railways, PCOs, Restaurants, Spa, Sports Tourism, Travel Insurance and Travel Media. This will bring in new scope for ideation and general development.

Demographically, 80% of the members are men and only 20% are women. 24% of the members are between 30 – 40 years, 36% between 40 – 50 years and 40% over 50 years. There is scope to change the mix of women and youth.

The new committee has already inducted industry giants like Jehangir Katgara and Sanjay Sethi as advisors and will be inducting some more stalwarts.

Events form the crux and the heart of its activities. A new concept called the “Skal bazaar” allows members to do business with each other as well as allowing sponsors to display their ware and sell and promote their products of mutual interest.

The first event organized at Marine Plaza on 24th November saw Seychelles Tourism as presenter and Sarovar Hotels, Bird Group, Luxury Wellness Cruises and Vacationwallahs with stalls under Skal Bazaar.

Skal club of Bombay is already in partnership with networking organizations of expats and likeminded professionals and is in talks with chambers of commerce for joint functions of mutual benefit.

Skal club of Bombay is looking at twinning opportunities across the globe with like-minded cities on cultural, commercial, ethnicity and connectivity matches. Feedback forms the crux of any organization. Skal club of Bombay is using its whatsapp groups, Facebook and other social media to reach out to its members and understand their needs.

Endorsing the Skal Vision statement “To be a trusted voice in travel and tourism” Skal Club of Bombay is reaching out to new heights.
