SkyBus, operators of Australasia’s premier airport transfer service, today announced that it has agreed to acquire the Gold Coast Tourist Shuttle (GCTS) from Surfside Buslines.

Completion is anticipated for early December 2017, when GCTS will be rebranded to SkyBus Gold Coast, and operated by SkyBus, in line with its other popular and highly successful services throughout Melbourne, Victoria and Auckland, New Zealand. SkyBus aims to launch the service in mid-December, subject to regulatory approvals.

“Our move into Gold Coast is an exciting elevation of the SkyBus brand providing a vital and world class service to one of Australasia’s most popular destinations. With Gold Coast Airport showing strong, continual year on year growth, increasingly from its long-haul and domestic passengers, we are optimistic that SkyBus Gold Coast will be the way to go for many travelling to and from this popular destination,” said Adam Begg, SkyBus co-CEO and Director, when commenting on the move to acquire GCTS.

“We have received strong request demand from our passengers for this service and are confident that we can successfully grow SkyBus Gold Coast to be a world-class airport express that is reliable, convenient and affordable for all travellers.”

Mr Begg added that Gold Coast Airport is one of the fastest growing in Australia and its long- term mass transit vision makes it the ideal partner for SkyBus.
Gold Coast Airport Chief Operating Officer Marion Charlton welcomed today’s announcement.

“The operation of this shuttle has long been an important part of the transport offering at Gold Coast Airport and we look forward to working with SkyBus on the delivery of the service,” Ms Charlton said.

Surfside Buslines General Manager Martin Hall said the company is excited about the future as Surfside Buslines and SkyBus explore opportunities to develop new transport services for Gold Coast tourists.

“Every year we help millions of people commute for work and leisure purposes. For these reasons, we are focused on enhancing this service as demand for shuttle transport increases in the region,” Mr Hall said.

As part of SkyBus’ rebranding effort, all GCTS buses will progressively move to SkyBus’ livery and will be fitted with key SkyBus features such as free Wi-Fi, internal luggage racks and smartphone, digital ticketing options to enhance customer experience.

SkyBus, a Gold prize winner at the 2016 RACV Victorian Tourism Awards, and the recipient of the 2017 and 2016 Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence, has a proven track record as a world class airport mass transit specialist.

SkyBus was established in 1978 and this year will move just over five million passengers in Victoria and New Zealand. This is largely contributed in the last 2 years by its rapid expansion in Victoria with four additional airport express services launched and services in Auckland, New Zealand.
