Australia’s leading adventure tourism company, Skydive Australia, has scooped the pool at the prestigious Golden Backpack Tourism Awards, presented at a gala dinner on the Gold Coast last night.
The Golden Backpack Awards are the original and most established awards dedicated to the independent travel sector and reward companies who work hard to make backpacking in Australia and NZ extra special.
Skydive Australia took out the top prize for “Best Tour Activity in NSW” and also the main award of the night, “Best Tour Activity – Australia-wide”.
Skydive operates 15-drop zones across Australia including: five in NSW, three in Victoria, three in WA and four in QLD. It has also recently acquired skydiving businesses NZone Skydive and Skydive Wanaka in New Zealand, marking the company’s entry into the international markets. Last year the company conducted over 130,000 tandem skydives.
It also recently finalized the acquisition of its first non-parachuting business, Raging Thunder Adventures in Queensland. Raging Thunder is a leader in adventure and ecotourism. It operates extreme white water rafting adventures, canyoning, kayaking, hot air balloon rides and tours of the Great Barrier Reef, serving more than 150,000 passengers each year.
Skydive Director Anthony Ritter, said the twin awards were validation of its commitment to providing awesome experiences across Australasia.
“It’s the customers who vote on these awards – so we’re absolutely delighted that they’ve singled us out – it really means a great deal,” Mr Ritter said.
“We strive to be the best in everything we do and our commitment to excellence is never ending. It’s our vision to become the world’s biggest and best adventure tourism business.”
“We owe our success to the hard work and dedication of our wonderful team – right across Australia and NZ and we thank them very much for the tremendous work they do every day.”
