Perched high above Queenstown, with stunning views towards the Remarkables mountains and Lake Wakatipu, the café is undergoing major renovations over coming weeks, its first major upgrade in over ten years.

To be called the Market Kitchen, it will be a modern, unique café with multiple food stations offering unique flavours and tastes from around the world with a multinational appeal.

Skyline General Manager Lyndon Thomas said he was “delighted” to be able to offer locals and visitors an exceptional new dining experience which was unique in Queenstown.

“We have over 550,00 visitors per year accessing the Skyline Gondola, including 3,000 local season pass holders who are repeat guests, often bringing friends and family along to enjoy the experience,” he said.

“It’s essential we continually expand our products to offer a fantastic array of culinary delights, which are fresh, competitively priced and appeal to everyone.

“Our café has simply the best views in town, so with a new, modern look and an even wider selection of cuisines on offer it will be the destination café of choice for locals and visitors looking for great food, in a great setting.”

Scheduled to open early July, the Market Kitchen will include a brand-new pizza oven for making gourmet pizzas, a specialist tandoor oven for spectacular curries, an ice cream parlour and a selection of freshly-made savoury and sweet crepes.

A ‘pick and go’ section will offer an array of fresh, quality snacks including gourmet pies, sausage rolls, good ‘old fashioned’ fish & chips, sandwiches and freshly made pastries, muffins, scones, and cakes – all baked onsite by experienced pastry chefs.

Surrounded by snow-capped mountains, the new Market Kitchen will continue to offer an extensive drinks menu, including alcoholic beverages, coffee, smoothies and soup.

“We just can’t wait to showcase the café and new menu to the community,” said Mr Thomas.

“It will be a great place to relax, unwind and take in the views.”

An annual Skyline Gondola pass costs $76 and gives unlimited year-round access for the cardholder, including 10% off café food and beverages.
