Global travel search engine Skyscanner has launched an extension to its popular hotel app for Apple Watch customers and its first wearable app product globally.‘Find Your Way’ provides travellers with directions back to their hotel when in their destination, via their Apple Watch.
Once a traveller ‘favourites’ a hotel within the Skyscanner app on their iPhone or iPad, they can then sync with their Apple Watch to access the direction service via their Apple Watch.
The watch will display the hotel name and estimated time it will take to walk back to the hotel as well as the hotel address and phone number.
Balint Orosz, Head of Apps Product at Skyscanner comments: “We’ve long known that travel search and planning is increasingly mobile – for over a year now, our customers have been searching for their travel on their mobile devices more than on a desktop computer and this is a trend that is only set to continue.
“We wanted to give our existing hotel app customers an added benefit after they have booked and when they are at their destination through the new Apple Watch. Our ‘Find Your Way’ feature enables people to navigate to their hotel without having to have their iPhone highly visible as they walk in unfamiliar places.
“This is our first wearable app release and the potential for this technology is incredibly exciting. How we use this technology to deliver more benefits to travellers is something we’re exploring across our development teams.”
The new feature is available to customers in the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan and the UK and can be used anywhere in the world. Customers will require data or WiFi access on their Apple Watch.
