Skytrans Announces New Air Link for Toowoomba and Roma to commence January 2014

Queensland’s leading regional airline, Skytrans has responded to the Newman Government’s review of Roma air services earlier this year by announcing today it will operate daily flights between Toowoomba and Roma.

Skytrans’ new Toowoomba – Roma – Toowoomba service will fly daily, Monday to Friday, with up to 10 services per week starting Monday, 13 January, 2014. The oneway fares will start from $219 per person and will be available to book from Friday, 1 November, 2013.Untitled

The managing director of Skytrans, Simon Wild, said his organisation has been significantly buoyed by the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) review under the Transport Operations (Passenger Transport) Act 199 that paved the way to launching a new air regional service.

“In partnership with Local Council, we lobbied vigorously for this change to occur and while today’s announcement is great news for Skytrans, so too is it a win-win for 2 people living, working and doing business in the Darling Downs and south west Queensland regional communities.

“With the outcomes being greater productivity and convenience, our service will effectively slash travel times from a four and a half hour drive to a one our flight. It also underscores our commitment to Toowoomba as a key aviation hub that currently operates daily services to Sydney and key regional centres on TMR’s Q Connect Network. While this service links Toowoomba and Roma, so too does it offer travellers a convenient connection between Roma and Sydney, negating the need to travel via Brisbane,” he said.

The Hon. John McVeigh, member for Toowoomba South, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry commented that south west Queensland communities are the beneficiaries of this change to legislation. “As a Government we are confident that by opening up this air route, we will be supporting business while promoting new opportunities particularly in the highly productive Surat Basin region.”

Mr Trevor Watts MP, Member for Toowoomba North agrees. “Toowoomba is ideally placed as a centre of commerce feeding into the Surat Basin. Up until now, businesses have strived to develop workforces from the local community. However, the benefits of employing locally have been offset by the inefficiency in transportation of their staff, contractors and sub-contractors to Roma and elsewhere in the Surat Basin by road.”

Skytrans operates regular passenger transport and charter services to 28 locations throughout QLD and NSW. All flights feature full in-flight service, movies, and quality catering.
