In a statement released today the Managing Director of Skytrans, Simon Wild said he welcomes Central Queensland University as the new Naming Rights Sponsor of the Cairns Taipans.

Speaking on behalf of Skytrans, Mr. Wild said he was humbled by the community and club gratitude expressed since Skytrans’ crucial intervention to save the club from liquidation in 2009.

“After six years and 2.1 million dollars of support to the Cairns Taipans the time is right to hand over the baton of premier sponsor and we are delighted that it is going to higher education provider, CQU,” he said.

Skytrans will continue to back the team with an emphasis supporting its indigenous programs, as well as their health and education initiatives around literacy and promoting school attendance.

“Community support is essential for any club and business.  This is why Skytrans is so proud of its record of support for the Cairns Taipans and in return, is grateful for the patronage and goodwill the FNQ community has shown our airline,” he said.

Skytrans’ sponsorship of Cairns Taipans was not just in the corporate arena but was additionally bolstered by significant private support from the Wild Family.

“Elite sport and the aviation industry have a lot in common. Both are keenly competitive.  When it comes to Skytrans and the Cairns Taipans, we appreciate and recognise this partnership as an excellent example of the sport and aviation working together for mutual benefit across the Far North Queensland greater community and region.”
