A huge dump of natural snow earlier this week combined with low temperatures has provided a great opportunity to fire up the snow guns early and start building a fantastic on-piste snow base for the 2015 season.

The snow guns cranked yesterday evening (May 27) with cold temperatures, the perfect mix for continued snowmaking throughout today.

Ski area manager Ross Lawrence said snowmaking had started early.

“With the snow we’ve already got on the ground and the temperatures we’ve been experiencing, it was too good an opportunity to miss,” he said.

“Mother Nature provided a good half a metre or more already, so the mountain is looking fantastic as we build towards opening on June 20.”

More snow is in the forecast for early next week.

It’s also full steam ahead for contractors working on the new base building.

Teams are working 24/7 on the new building which will house world-class facilities and a state-of-the-art design.
