Following a hotly-contested design competition hosted by SO Sofitel Bangkok during April – May, four of the city’s best young talents have been picked to showcase their art installations at the 4th annual Wanderlust Art & Fashion Exhibition from September to October 2016.
“This is the first year we’re opening the exhibition to young talents and we were amazed by the creativity shown by all the contest entries. Our key brand pillars include creativity and design, so it’s fitting that we offer our hotel as a canvas for these standout undergraduate talents to express themselves through art and fashion. I’d like to personally congratulate the four finalists and thank our judges who shared in our vision to nurture young artists and designers,” says Mr. Yves Mudry, general manager of SO Sofitel Bangkok.
Contest submissions from all universities underwent a thorough reviewing process by an expert panel of judges, which include Tawn Chatchavalvong, the designer behind his namesake Tawn C. women’s apparel brand whose credentials include being the first Thai designer to ever receive a “Pyramid of Excellence” accolade from Accademia Italiana (Italy) and being listed by Vogue Thailand Magazine as a runner-up in the “Vogue Who’s on Next 2014”. Joining him is Assistant Professor Patcha U-Tiswannakul, the Deputy Dean for Administrative Affairs for the Fashion & Textile Design Department of Creative Arts, Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University. Nurturing new talent is something celebrated painter and illustrator Parn Somnuek Klangnok already does – in addition to his high-profile collaborations with many internationally renowned brands, he is also an art teacher at Mahanak School of M.L. Chiratorn Chirapravati. Completing the judging panel is Boss Thamatat Liangthamarath, partner and managing director of Him and Her Studio and a past winner of the Thailand Fashion Designer Award.
Each of the four finalists will receive THB20,000 towards the resources needed to bring their concepts to life. Based on their final display, the judges will select one winner which best illustrates the “Wanderlust” contest theme on the opening night of the exhibition on 1 September 2016. The top artist will receive an additional THB10,000 in prize money.
This year’s “Wanderlust” theme is inspired by SO Sofitel Bangkok’s location overlooking verdant Lumpini Park – a destination hotel which provides urban dwellers an escape to nature with designs inspired by the five elements (Water, Earth, Wood, Metal, and Fire).
The 4th annual Wanderlust Art & Fashion Exhibition will open from 1 September to 31 October 2016 using four different spaces inside SO Sofitel Bangkok, located on the public areas on the 7th and 9th floors
