Hong Kong wine lovers can discover a new favorite blend among some lesser known wine varieties at Altaya Wines, purveyor of the most premier and only the finest wines in Hong Kong,

While Shiraz, Cabernet, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc are lining the shelves in most wine shops, Altaya Wines also offer their customers a more sophisticated selection with a range of lesser known wine varietals.

Altaya Wines stock a number of Italian Dolcetto wines, known for their dark fruits, texture and intensity. While Dolcetto means “sweet little one” in Italian, Dolcetto wines are quite the opposite, and appeal to those with a taste for spicy aromas and earthy undertones.

Grüner Veltliner, another Austrian grape, is an understated variety stocked by Altaya Wines. Grüner Veltliner is often dry, spicy and peppery and is considered one of the best wines for food pairing. Altaya Wines’ expert staff can provide advice on the best flavors to pair with their selection ofGrüner Veltliner wines.

“Try anything from Vietnamese to Thai to spicy Chinese flavors. Gruner Veltliner also go very well with seafood, bitter greens and salads. It’s one of the few still wines that hold up against challenging vegetable fare such as artichoke and grilled asparagus. For meats, try pork tenderloin dish & smoked ham,” recommends Aiolos To, Sales Manager at Altaya Wines.

Altaya Wines also have two Mulderbosch Chenin Blanc wines available – the 2011 and 2012 vintages. Chenin Blanc is growing in popularity and the 2012 Mulderbosch Chenin Blanc comes almost entirely from dry farmed bush vines and has been fermented in 20% French oak, and the remainder in stainless steel, making for a perky and lively white wine.

“Hong Kongers are becoming more sophisticated when it comes to wine selection and we are seeing an increasing interest in veering away from mainstream wine trends. People are broadening their usual wine choices to uncover hidden gems and new favorites among lesser known wines,” says Paulo Pong, Managing Director of Altaya Group.

These lesser-known wine varietals, along with Hong Kong’s best selection of premium wines, are available online at .
