Sophisticated Barcelona Festive Fare at Spanish Taverna Rustico

December 7, 2017 Dining No Comments Email Email

Spanish taverna Rustico is celebrating Christmas and New Year’s Eve in sophisticated Barcelona style at popular Lai Chi Kok dining destination D2 Place One.  Prized European seasonal seafood, premium Spanish beef, traditional Catalan rice pans and seasonal grilled winter vegetables highlights the festive menu by Executive Chef Carlos Salvador Asensio, a protégé of renowned Spanish-Catalan chef Carme Ruscalleda.

Chef Asensio is showcasing gastronomy inspired by the world’s only five-Michelin-starred female chef with an exclusive a la carte menu on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day (24 – 26 December) and New Year’s Eve (31 December) with a minimum spending of HK$380 per person.

Fresh winter seafood is headlined by Crispy Whole Scorpion Fish with Butter Lettuce Salad (HK$488), Whole Sea Bass with Confit Potatoes and “Piquillo” Peppers (HK$428) and traditional “Gambas al Ajillo” Red Prawns with Garlic, Chili and Parsley with Potato Foam (HK$398).

Traditional beef specialties include Charcoal-Grilled Spanish Beef Sirloin Deluxe “Rubia Gallega” with Cauliflower and Black Truffle Sauce (HK$798) and Cured Spanish Beef “Cecina” Carpaccio with Manchego Cheese (HK$188).

Cataluña’s famous paella-style rice dishes are flaunted with succulent Lobster Juicy Rice (HK$388) and sweet and spicy Codfish Rice “a la Catalana” (HK$318).

Completing the menu of traditional winter gourmet fare are two charcoal-grilled vegetable specialties – ‘Calçots’ Spring Onions with Romesco Sauce (HK$108) and Catalan Style Artichokes (HK$98).

Chef Asensio’s ‘modern Barcelona cuisine’ is traditional with a contemporary twist, honed at Moments restaurant at the Mandarin Oriental in Barcelona under celebrated multi-Michelin star head chef Carme Ruscalleda.

Rustico is named after its traditional rustic Spanish taverna décor modelled after typical Catalan restaurants – complete with wooden beams, an open kitchen with hanging jambon, pots and pans, and red brick/tile mosaic flooring. In true ‘taverna’ style, the intimate venue even incorporates semi-outdoor al fresco seating under grapevines.

Occupying 2,000 sq ft and 80 seatings, Rustico serves authentic Spanish tapas in a relaxed and elegant setting that is distinctly modern with covert Spanish accents.  The open kitchen invites diners to interact with the kitchen and observe Chef Carlos Salvador Asensio’s culinary skills.

Rustico is located on G01, D2 Place One, 9 Cheung Yee Street, Lai Chi Kok, Kowloon, Hong Kong.  For enquiries or reservations, please call (852) 2743-4511, or visit www.rustico.com.hk for more information.

Rustico opens daily from 12:00 noon to 10:30 pm, offering lunch, happy hour and dinner menu options with conviviality fuelled by Spanish sangrias, cocktails, wines and spirits.
