Soul Twist and Jazz Tones from Des Mitchell and Sara France

October 14, 2014 Hotel News No Comments Email Email

From the Mediterranean coast of Mallorca and the happening city of London, Des Mitchell takes over the decks at Six Senses Laamu’s Chill Bar from October 29 to January 26, 2015 giving a soulful twist to the chill out mood of the Maldivian sunsets.

Des will be joined by his good friend and fellow performer Sara France, who will be accompanying his music with her lyrical voice, adding a jazz feel to the evenings.

Des has an outstanding reputation as a DJ and is known for his ability to cover all music preferences. His personal favorites are old soul classics but with his vast knowledge of music he knows how to choose a tune to set the emotion and mood of his audience. Sara has soul influences in her repertoire, but jazz is her first big love and she enjoys the thrill of giving jazz classics her own unique interpretation.
Having worked alongside many top music-industry names, amongst whom are Thin Lizzie, Brook Benton and DJ Quicksilver to name a few, Des was the resident DJ for the international Ministry of Sound brand. He has been spinning turntables internationally, in countries as diverse as South Africa, Korea, Singapore, Dubai, Thailand, India and Japan, and was a trendsetter in the early ‘90s when venturing out to the then restless regions of Northern Ireland and East and West Germany.
Des is at home with a microphone as he has worked with the BBC in both Birmingham and London, and is currently doing radio daily for Radio One Mallorca.

Sara started training in classical ballet in the world famous Ballet Rambert, Britain’s national dance company. After being inspired by great jazz legends such as Ella Fitzgerald and Peggy Lee, she soon realized singing is her real love. By the age of 21, she was performing in London’s West End, alongside Tony Bennett, Julie Andrews and the Drifters, among others. After performing in the West End for many years, Sara traveled around Europe sharing the stage with great jazz artists such as Malcolm Duncan from the Average White Band.

Six Senses Laamu is thrilled to have these talented artists in residence and the entire crew is looking forward to their daily performances together at Chill Bar, offering unique sound experiences to the resort’s guests. Both known to be very congenial, they look forward to meeting guests and will be keen to share their music and diverse experiences.
