Minister Derek Hanekom, the South African Minister responsible for Tourism and his Seychelles counterpart, Alain St.Ange, the island’s Minister responsible on his part for Tourism and Culture met to discuss not only a continuation of their country’s existing cooperation but they also looked at ways and means to strengthen the existing cooperation.

Minister Hanekom of South Africa who was personally leading the South African delegation to the 2015 edition of the Carnaval International de Victoria made time to meet with Minister St.Ange on the sidelines of the carnival celebrations.

South Africa and Seychelles already have an MOU in the field of tourism cooperation that is still in force but the two Ministers wanted to see how to better develop cooperation approaches for the benefit of both countries.

This was the second formal meeting the two Ministers since Minister Hanekon took office last year following President Jacob Zuma’s reelection. Their first meeting was in Minister Hanekom’s Pretoria Office earlier this year. Informally they also meet often at tourism trade shows or at the UNWTO conferences.

Minister Alain St.Ange said to the press during one of the carnival briefings that he appreciated the level of friendship that that exists between himself and Minister Hanekom of South Africa. “Tourism remains a human industry and when those responsible for that industry not only get on but when they also respect each other all avenues for closer cooperation will be discussed” Minister St.Ange said.
