South African Airways (SAA), Africa’s leading airline, today announced it has accepted Qantas’s decision to conclude their long standing hardblock code share agreement from 31 May 2014.

“Our customers will be able to continue to travel with our established partners between Australia’s East Coast and from New Zealand through to Johannesburg and onto the largest network in Africa via our daily service from Perth,” SAA’s Country Manager for Australasia, Tim Clyde-Smith said.

SAA codeshare flights on Qantas’ Sydney operation were closed off for sale from 21 February 2014. No further bookings will be made for travel on or after 1 June 2014. The re-accommodation process has been advised to all travel partners and information will be available on our local website.

“This is a new direction for South African Airways in Australasia and one that I am confident will ensure our future here. We have an excellent team across the region and we are engaged about the future, “Tim concluded.
