The South African Tourism Roadshow, hosted by South African comedian and South African Tourism ambassador, Urzila Carlson, officially wrapped up at a final event held in Melbourne on Friday night. Over 1000 travel agents across Australia and New Zealand took part in the Roadshow this year, which also travelled to Perth, Brisbane, Sydney and Auckland, treating agents to an educational and entertaining evening all about the Rainbow Nation.

Urzila Carlson took guests on an interactive and educational journey of South Africa, as they travelled across the provinces to learn about the diverse country’s fine cuisine and wine, warm and welcoming culture, and once-in-a-lifetime experiences including safari to spot the Big 5 amongst the unique South African wildlife.

Some of the destination’s many highlights were showcased through a series of videos featuring Urzila following her recent trip to South Africa. 19 South African operators ranging from local tourism boards to hotels and 10 Australian and New Zealand wholesalers were also on hand to provide agents with their invaluable insight and product knowledge.

Speaking on behalf of South African Tourism, Australasia Hub Head, Mosilo Sofonia, said the roadshow provided the perfect opportunity for the travel industry to get to know what South Africa has to offer.

“We’re so proud of this year’s South African Tourism Roadshow which was bigger and better than ever. We had a fantastic time bringing together travel agents in both Australia and New Zealand to learn about South Africa’s diverse offerings, so that they can create inspiring and unique holiday itineraries for their clients,” said Sofonia.

“Each show had a great turn out and provided guests with entertainment from our very own ambassador, Urzila Carlson, who certainly provided plenty of laughs and showcased highlights from her visit to the country last month.

“We are grateful to all the agents who took the time to join us on this journey, and look forward to welcoming more visitors into South Africa.”

To bring the shows to life, South African Tourism partnered with airline partner, South African Airways (SAA).

While the occasion provided an engaging and educational experience, it was also an evening filled to the brim with excitement and prizes that saw ten lucky agents across the five Roadshows win a spot on a familiarisation trip to SA to ‘Meet South Africa’ for themselves.

Those who didn’t win on the night also got another chance to win one of six spots on the familiarisation trip by entering the South African Specialist Competition at https://www.southafrica.net/gl/en/trade/page/sa-specialist-competition.
