South Australia Contests National Tourism Awards

27 of the best South Australian tourism experiences will represent the State at the prestigious Qantas Australian Tourism Awards when it is held in Adelaide on April 10th.South Australian finalists include some of the State’s biggest attractions, events and accommodation, such as The Clipsal 500 Adelaide, SeaLink Travel Group, Windy Point Restaurant, The Playford, Adelaide Shores and the new tourism development, The Frames.

After winning their categories last year, Pindarie Cellar Door and Tour Barossa will both compete to maintain their titles as Australia’s best tourism winery and Australia’s best tour & transport operator (respectively).

Rawnsley Park Station Eco-Villas will be competing across two categories; Ecotourism and Unique Accommodation.
The Barossa Council is also represented in two categories, for both the Local Government Award for Tourism and its Barossa Visitor Centre, is contending the Visitor & Information Services category.

Seven of our State’s finalists are seasoned performers with Adventure Bay Charters, Hahndorf Farm Barn, Cellar Door Wine Festival, West Terrace Cemetery, Barossa Visitor Centre, Pindarie Cellar Door and Rawnsley Park Station Eco-Villas all entering the South Australian Tourism Awards Hall of Fame in 2014, for winning their category three years in a row.

South Australian Tourism Industry Council Chief Executive Ward Tilbrook says the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards are the pinnacle of achievement for the nation’s tourism industry.

“To be a finalist at the national level, entrants must first win a State tourism award in the same category, so our local finalists are up against some very tough competition,” Mr Tilbrook says.

“Hosting the event is a fantastic opportunity for South Australia, as the nation’s very best tourism businesses will be converging on Adelaide giving our State the opportunity to put its best foot forward, showcase our tourism offerings and invite guests to visit our regions.

“With more than 800 tourism operators and industry leaders expected to attend the event, it is said to generate an estimated $1.5 million for the State’s economy.

“I wish all South Australian finalists the best of luck next month.”
