The Adelaide Convention Bureau (ACB) has won 75 business events, with an economic benefit of $136 million, and attracting 28,500 delegates to South Australia by the end of 2019.

The events include one of Adelaide’s largest international events, World Routes, a global meeting for airlines, airports, destinations and other aviation stakeholders. It is the first time this prized and prestigious event has been held in Australasia. It will discuss, develop and plan global network strategy and attracts the most senior decision makers of the world’s leading aviation organisations.

ACB Chief Executive Damien Kitto said that a healthy business events sector was vital to a destination’s economic strength. “It is therefore an increasingly highly competitive marketplace in which to win such business for SA. Bringing these 75 events over four months to the State, is testament to the ACB’s strategy,” he said. “We are particularly proud to be the first Australasian host of the prestigious World Routes.  The benefit and exposure for SA of winning this globally significant business event cannot be underestimated.”

The 75 business events will in total use 18 different venues and deliver 130,000 bed nights for the State’s hotels. The economic benefit is the equivalent of creating 1,250 jobs. The longer-term economic benefits include trade and investment opportunities, skilled migration potential, and the exploration and showcasing of SA’s expert capabilities across a range of fields.

27 of the events are related to medical health; built from an ACB focus on attracting health sciences events.  They include:

o   Human Proteome Organisation World Congress 2019

o   2019 Australian Physiotherapy Association Conference

o   Royal Australian College of General Practitioners Annual Scientific Convention

o   Clinical Oncology of Australia’s Scientific Meeting

o   Leading Age Services Australia National Congress 2019
