Miami’s South Beach Hotel is front and center in helping to commemorate a South Beach landmark — the cultural gem’s 100-year anniversary marked by the year 2015, as the property has over the years contributed significantly to this dynamic community.

The iconic city has seen everything from fame and fortune to boom and bust over this century, and as a consequence has plenty to celebrate during the planned year of festivities.

From the official celebration in March, a wide range of activities will be held year-long throughout the city, celebrating sports, fashion, culture and entertainment (source:http://www.miamiandbeaches.com/special-offers/miami-beach-centennial/miami-beach-centennial-celebration). The existing world-class events such as the Art Basel International Art Show and the Miami International Auto Show will recognize the achievements of their host city. The Wine and Food Festival gets into the party spirit by inviting local citizens to prepare a special birthday cake, with the winner receiving the appropriate accolade. The South Beach Hotel is proud to be an integral part of this celebration and the city’s history by accommodating local and out of town guests for each of the festive events.

The original structure on today’s site was known as the Liberty Arms Hotel, which was constructed in 1939 by the renowned architect Henry Hohauser. It was built in the classic art deco style, featuring an asymmetrical “U” shape, together with a distinctive roof line and architectural elements that would make it very distinctive in its day. In fact, the building was — and is — one of the leading architectural gems to be found on 21st Street in Collins Park. Such was its architectural importance that it was given a National Historic Designation, as part of the Miami Beach Architectural District in 1979. An additional Local Historic Designation was awarded in 1985 (source: https://www.ruskinarc.com/mdpl/ArtDecoHistoricDistrict/7544-236%2021st%20St/view). In a nod to the historical importance of the South Beach Hotel, collectors are trading important artifacts from the past online (source:http://www.ebay.com/itm/Liberty-Arms-Hotel-MIAMI-BEACH-FLORIDA-FL-Vintage-LINEN-Postcard-/361191041406). Such artifacts as a splendid linen postcard depicting the property and describing it as “a new modern hotel facing beautiful Collins Park” recently traded on eBay and certainly takes you back to that glorious era.

While South Beach Hotel is rightly proud of its heritage and its place in the history of the city of South Beach, the property has nevertheless more than kept pace with the times. Today, it offers the very highest standards, as well as unequivocal style. This luxury boutique hotel has been recently renovated to all of its Art Deco glory. While retaining its relaxing ambiance and contemporary appeal, it proudly offers the convenience and amenities of much larger luxury hotels.
