Multi-award-winning tourism company Southern Discoveries continues to expand by adding new roles to its marketing team.

With the new additions, the company is focusing its marketing operations into online and offline, PR and partnerships.

The South Island-based company, which operates in Queenstown, Te Anau and Milford Sound, is currently experiencing a period of growth and its sales and marketing team is growing with it.

Libby Baron has been appointed the new marketing and partnerships manager where she’ll be implementing marketing strategies across predominantly offline platforms and activity. She will be joining the team on September 14.

Libby joins Southern Discoveries from Destination Queenstown, where she worked as its communications and media executive. From her time at DQ, she’s gained a strong understanding of the tourism industry domestically and internationally.

Southern Discoveries sales and marketing director Julia Savill is looking forward to Libby joining the team and believes she’ll be a great asset to the company in a time of growth.

“We’re thrilled to have Libby on board as her general tourism knowledge and expertise added to her local knowledge and the environment in which we operate will make her an extremely valuable team member,” she says.

Kiwi Libby grew up around the Waikato before moving to the South Island, finally setting up home in Queenstown. She describes Queenstown as a “tourism hotspot” due to the variety of activities available in the resort and the expertise of operators.

“I’ve been in Queenstown just over three years and I love it. The lifestyle is amazing and I love the pace and the outdoors way of living that’s embraced here,” she says.

“Having so much to do at your fingertips has real appeal for both locals and visitors. There’s always something new to try out or go and see; it really is an amazing place to live.”

The new structure means Libby will work closely with the online marketing manager Claire Blackadder on brand, offline campaigns, advertising, industry partnerships, content generation and PR activity.

She looks forward to gaining more experience in the marketing field while still working for a Queenstown-based company.

“I’m really looking forward to joining the team at Southern Discoveries,” she says. “Exciting things are happening with our product and I’m eager to see how it all pans out and how I can help spread the word to the world.”
