Kangaroo Island’s acclaimed Southern Ocean Lodge has been named the best resort in Australia and the fourth top hotel worldwide in the prestigious Travel + Leisure magazine 2016 World’s Best Awards.
The remote luxury lodge was given a near-perfect score of 97.39, placing it at number four in the magazine’s list of the 100 Best Hotels in the world and giving it the highest ranking of any hotel in Australia.
Announced in the US last night and published in the August issue of Travel + Leisure magazine, the rankings are the result of an international reader survey and are among the world’s most highly regarded annual travel awards.
Baillie Lodges Managing Director James Baillie said it was a great honour to have an Australian property rated among the world’s best.
“Southern Ocean Lodge has always set out to show that Australia’s own distinct brand of luxury can compete with the absolute best in the world,” Mr Baillie said. “Accolades like this show that we not only offer some of the most incredible locations in the world, we’re also backing them with extraordinary experiences for our visitors.”
Perched dramatically on the cliffs of South Australia’s Kangaroo Island, Southern Ocean Lodge has become one of Australia’s most recognised luxury properties. Superbly designed by architect Max Pritchard, its 21 contemporary suites offer spectacular views of the coast and provide a luxe base from which to explore the island’s pristine wilderness, renowned wildlife and superb food and wine.
Since its opening in 2008, Southern Ocean Lodge has attracted a succession of international accolades. It is the flagship property of the Baillie Lodges portfolio and a founding member of Luxury Lodges of Australia.
