Southern Ocean Lodge Seals the Day with New Sunrise Tour

October 30, 2017 Resort News No Comments Email Email

An up-close and personal encounter with sea lions at sunrise is the latest way to start the day for guests at Southern Ocean Lodge. The award-winning luxury lodge on Kangaroo Island’s remote southwest coast has announced a new, exclusive experience offering guests a once-in-a-lifetime private moment with these impressive mammals as the day breaks over Seal Bay.

Bookable on a private basis for solo travelers, couples, families and small groups, the Seal Bay Sunrise Exclusive guarantees private access to the Seal Bay Conservation Park and promises a tranquil and unforgettable experience with the resident sea lions.

Around a thousand sea lions live in the sand dunes at Seal Bay, making it Australia’s third-largest sea lion colony. Reminiscent of the Galapagos, sea lions frolic in abundance in the sand dunes, on the beach and in the waves to the delight of visitors.

By special arrangement with South Australia’s Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources (DEWNR) which manages the Park, Southern Ocean Lodge has exclusive access to Seal Bay in the quiet of the morning from 6am, before it opens to the public.

The Seal Bay Sunrise Exclusive includes a personally-guided encounter with sea lions led by a Southern Ocean Lodge guide, followed by a gourmet breakfast served on the beach at Bales Beach, where there are sometimes dolphins, fur seals and sea lions surfing the waves.

Southern Ocean Lodge owner James Baillie said the Seal Bay Sunrise experience offered guests a special chance to encounter the sea lions with just the company of a partner, family or friends.

“Sunrise is a spectacular time on Kangaroo Island’s south coast, it’s a real reminder to seize the day,” Mr Baillie said.

“To see the sun come up over the Southern Ocean and the sea lions – large and small – emerge from the sand dunes to make their way to the beach is a wonderful experience.

“Having a whole beach to yourself is a rare treat; having a beach full of sea lions to yourself is just incredible.”

Rates on the Seal Bay Sunrise Exclusive include private guided tour and breakfast and are AU$1400* for 1-6 guests, while additional guests are AU$150 per person.
