SpiceJet today announced the launch of a new flight connecting Kolkata and Kathmandu via Bagdogra with effect from August 13, 2014. This flight will operate three times a week — on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Bookings for this flight are now open. The airline is also offering an introductory promotional fare starting from Rs 99 plus statutory taxes and fees for Bagdogra – Kathmandu. Also Fares from Kolkata to Kathmandu via Bagdogra start at Rs 4,289 plus statutory taxes and fees. This offer for Kathmandu will be valid on the first 1,000 seats sold on a first come-first served basis.

With the introduction of this flight, SpiceJet will become the first Indian airline to operate internationally from Bagdogra. This new three times weekly Kathmandu flight is in addition to the 11 weekly direct flights SpiceJet already operates on Delhi-Kathmandu route.

Bagdogra (in Darjeeling district, West Bengal) is located in the popular tourism region of the country, and is also the base airport for Darjeeling. This new service will help the people in the Darjeeling region, as well as those that live in the Kolkata metro region, have comfortable connectivity with Nepal’s capital city.

“This is our first international flight from the state of West Bengal. We believe this flight will not only facilitate tourism, but also be important for the growth of trade between the two neighboring nations” said Mr Kaneswaran Avili, Chief Commercial Officer, SpiceJet Ltd.

This new flight will also reinforce the existing 7 weekly frequencies operated by SpiceJet on the Kolkata-Bagdogra sector, taking the frequency on this sector to 10 weekly frequencies. Introductory fares for the Kolkata – Bagdogra sector on this new flight start at Rs 1,875 plus statutory taxes and fees.

SpiceJet will be deploying Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft on both these routes. Booking can be made on or through online travel portals and agents.
