Ha Long Bay, Red River by bike and boat

Hanoi is a fascinating historical city and well worth exploring, but equally intriguing is nearby Ha Long Bay and Cuc Phuong National Park.

For those interested in discovering more of Vietnam, either at the beginning or the end of another tour, we have two new short tours (3 days/2 nights) that allow you to do just that. On our Ha Long Bay Cycle and Cruise tour we first cycle along the Red River beforecruising through one of the world’s natural wonders. We spend the night on Cat Ba Island, cycling both the interior and the shoreline with stunning scenery all around, before we again take to the water and explore a cave before returning to Hanoi. This short excursion allows you see the bay from the water and the saddle, an opportunity few get to do! On our Red River Delta by Bike and Boat we see the vibrant rice paddies that flourish in the fertile delta as we cycle past limestone karsts. By boat we reach Bich Dong and explore these temples that were built in 1428. Leaving the ancient city of Hoa Lu we head to the jungle of Cuc Phuong, Vietnam’s first and largest national park. A visit to an animal rescue centre will allow us to see endangered monkeys up close. Both of these tours will allow you to see more of Vietnam from a unique perspective. We also offer excursions from Saigon, click here for all our Vietnam short tours!

3 countries, 3,000 kms, 39 days in September!

We have two truly adventurous souls heading out in September to ride all the way from Hanoi to Phuket! Three countries, almost 3,000 kilometres in 39 days. This is the longest ride in the 10 year history of SpiceRoads and without a doubt our most challenging! During their cycle from the South China Sea to the Andaman Sea, these riders will pass through the best of what Vietnam, Laos and Thailand have to offer. From Hanoi they’ll be riding through the tough mountains of northwest Vietnam, crossing into remote Laos with some truly longs days of riding. After a rest in Luang Prabang they will continue on to Thailand to mountain bike through hill tribe trails and along scenic rivers before heading through central Thailand. After a break in Bangkok it’s south along the Gulf of Thailand before crossing the Isthmus of Thailand and ending triumphantly in the resort island of Phuket. These intrepid cyclists will start on September 15 in Hanoi and finish their tour on October 25 inPhuket. There’s still time to join them for this epic ride across South East Asia!

Bicycle for Kids Charity Ride on July 28

Any of our riders who have cycled with guide Krit know what a kind and generous person he is. For years he has been organizing a charity ride to donate bikes to kids in rural areas so they can get to school easier. When his original sponsor fell through SpiceRoads stepped up and we are now pleased to be collaborating with Krit on the 50-km Bicycle for Kids Charity Ride. On July 28 we hope to have 300 riders cycling 50 kilometres around Suphan Buri. For every kilometre cycled SpiceRoads will donate 1 Baht towards the purchase of new bikes for children. If you can’t ride with us, you can still help us buy bikes for kids as Jeff Olver did with a generous donation. Jeff, who has ridden with Krit from Bangkok to Phuket and will depart on his fourth SpiceRoads tour soon, has made sure that a dozen kids will receive bikes. We know that there will be many happy cycling kids in Suphan Buri soon! Thanks Jeff for making that happen!

The fee to join the Bicycle for Kids Charity Ride.is 100 Baht and  includes lunch, drinking water and snacks. Registration opens at 6:30am, the ride starts a 8 am. Please contact us to join this event and to receive a map to the meeting point. Let’s cycle together for the kids!

The Tour of Hope is back in the saddle in Nov

This year’s edition of the The Tour of Hope hits Thailand’s roads from November 3rd – 9th and SpiceRoads is proudly entering our eighth year of affiliation with this great charity bike ride with its inspiring mission of giving aid to so many recipients throughout Thailand. Thanks to the generosity of past riders The Tour of Hope has donated 65 bikes to two communities in Uthai Thani province and 75 bikes to the Ban Pangmaidang School in Chiang Mai province. At the same school a learning library building has been developed with sponsorship money raised by previous tours, complete with media and research sources. The library serves both students and the local community. For 2013 the event starts in Bangkok, visits the delightful Koh Chang and finishes 700 kilometres later near the Cambodian border with a visit to a school that will be the recipient of this year’s donations. Be part of this annual fundraiser and join the The Tour of Hope as a cyclist; by sponsoring or supporting a participant; or just by telling others about the ride.
