Spirit Of Tasmania Wins Gold at The Australian Tourism Awards

Spirit of Tasmania has won a gold Australian Tourism Award as the country’s best Major Tour & Transport Operator.

The award was presented in front of more than 1000 guests at an awards dinner in Sydney on Friday 7 February 2014.

567292The 29th Australian Tourism Awards are the annual celebration of the highest achievements of Australian tourism businesses. Winners were announced from 28 categories covering the many sectors and experiences of Australia’s diverse tourism industry.

Spirit of Tasmania beat six other finalists to win the national award in the Major Tour and / or Transport category, including Searoad Ferries (Victoria), AAT Kings (Northern Territory), Great Southern Rail (South Australia), Quicksilver Group (Queensland), Moonshadow Cruises (New South Wales) and Slingair Heliwork (Western Australia).

Spirit of Tasmania Chief Executive Officer Charles Griplas said he was delighted that the company had been recognised on the national tourism industry stage.

567298“To receive the award ahead of some of Australia’s largest tourism and transport operators is also very gratifying,” he said.

“Spirit of Tasmania crew and staff work tirelessly to ensure people travelling to and from Tasmania enjoy their experience.  This award recognises their hard work.”

567301Mr Griplas said Spirit of Tasmania was aware of the important role it played in the state’s tourism industry and the broader Tasmanian economy.

“In addition to providing a unique travel experience, we also promote Tasmania as a tourist destination to the rest of Australia,” he said.

“In our press and TV ads promoted to the interstate market, we’ve featured some of Tasmania’s most iconic landmarks and attractions such as MONA, Boag’s Brewery, Salamanca Market, The Nut in Stanley and other fantastic locations around the state including Bay of Fires, Cradle Mountain, Port Arthur, Ross and Tasmania’s stunning coastline.”
