Sport Arena Possibilities in Southeastern Utah

In Grand County Utah, the Old Spanish Trail Arena has undergone expansion.

Designed to serve Grand County as a multi-use recreation complex, the 110,000 square feet of space had largely attracted equestrian events. The indoor earthen floor has been transfigured to serve other events throughout the years.  Adjacent to the facility a complex for soccer and baseball or softball has been completed further morphing the facility to obviously fulfill the multi-use designation.

Two ball fields, a soccer field, concession stand, restrooms and a covered pavilion are the newest addition to the Old Spanish Trail Arena. These facilities are available to rent for a tournament , reunion, or other special events. The location is a reasonable drive for participation by those in the Four Corners region, western slope of Colorado, central New Mexico and Arizona, all of Utah, although attendees to Moab’s events have come from farther afield.

The pavilion sees Roller Derby action. The season kicked off on April 25th with the Chevelles vs. the Pintos and will see another bout on May 30, 2015. Plenty of electrical outlets will enable an event like a chili cook-off or an amplified concert. The scenery from this spot is splendid.

The soccer field has been the site for Highland Games, activities celebrating Scottish decent.  Besides heavy athletics, attendees delight in the entertaining piping, drumming and marching competitions. The grounds are spacious. Exhibits are set up related to other Celtic aspects, educational and culinary. Find this event on Moab’s calendar in November annually.

The arena houses the Canyonlands PRCA Rodeo. Barrel racing, horse shows, team roping and equestrian workshops populate the use of Old Spanish Trail Arena. Being the largest venue in Moab, the Old Spanish Trail Arena is also the headquarters for motorized themed events. A decades old event, Jeep Safari, fills the week of Good Friday through Easter.  Two OHV events occupy the arena with vendor booths too. Rally on the Rocks takes place in May and Red Rockin’ SXS in September. Each of these events provides guided trails rides to test your mettle. In addition, the spaciousness of the floor and the 1,100 seats in the bleachers makes the arena ideal for two dog agility competitions which are held inside the arena produced by North American Dog Agility Council and Dog On Course of North America. These are free spectator events and amazing  to watch.  Traders of gems, rocks and minerals set up in October for an interesting expo. The Moab Rock Club sponsors it and the weekend includes field trips to remarkable rock sites.
