Sports Tourism Receives a Boost from Uprising Beach Resort

Sports tourism is a growing market that has the potential to boost the visitor numbers to Fiji, as well as contribute to the development of sports in Fiji.

Recognising this, Uprising Beach Resort made the announcement at the Fijian Tourism Expo (FTE) 2015 of its plans to continue its passion for sports development in Fiji at the national and international level by pursuing the niche sports tourism market.

Uprising will be investing in the development of an International Sized Rugby Training Field (currently available), a High Performance Sports Gym, a Multi-Purpose Court, a 25m lap pool, sprint track as well meeting and physio rooms, all as required by today’s professional sports teams.

Uprising has built a reputation as a strong supporter of local sports and teams, rugby in particular, and has also been able to produce world class Fijian rugby players. Locally owned and managed by a team born and raised in Pacific Harbour, Uprising has a strong desire to continue to provide opportunities to ensure that local employment in the Pacific Harbour area is supported.

“Uprising has identified a need for better facilities outside of the major urban areas in order to provide more options for touring international teams as well as local teams wanting a “one stop shop” for all their teams sporting needs,” Uprising Beach Resort Owner, Mr Rene Munch says.

Uprising will be able to provide the perfect solution for touring teams coming to Fiji to compete in sports events whilst still having that special Fiji Island experience. It will also provide our National Sporting bodies such as rugby, netball, basketball, swimming, soccer an affordable camp option to aid in their preparations for upcoming tours and major competitions,” he adds.

With these facilities in place, there is hope for an immediate impact in the local community with more opportunities for our youth to engage sports as a potential career opportunity.

“Sports tourism is a growing niche which Tourism Fiji is committed to supporting as we’ve seen the impact that sporting events which are held in Fiji annually, such as the Fiji Pro by the World Surf League and the Fiji International Triathlon have on the tourism industry,” Executive Chairman of the Tourism Fiji Board of Directors and Acting CEO, Mr Truman Bradley says.

“The organic growth from these sporting events illustrates the massive potential that exists for increasing visitor arrivals, as sports tourism attracts large groups. We are diligently working on capturing this market and the announcement by Uprising Beach Resort is reflective of our commitment,” he adds.

Uprising Beach Resort is an authentic Fijian accommodation option – located just 45 minutes outside of Suva in Pacific Harbour, the Adventure Capital of Fiji – that offers quality and a unique range of accommodation options to choose from.

It offers the perfect home base to some of Fiji’s most sort after ocean and land activities such as the internationally acclaimed “Shark Reef Shark Dives” and the “Garden of Eden” Rivers Fiji Tour of the Upper Navua River.
