Dolphin swim offer
While in Port Stephens, visitors can experience the thrill of becoming part of a wild dolphin pod with Dolphin Swim Australia which began its spring/summer/autumn swims this month after winter. The swims are available at dawn on weekends and see snorkel-clad swimmers, harnessed to a line between the front bows of the moving catamaran, ‘Imagine’, immersed at the rear of a wild dolphin pod. The sunrise dolphin swims at Port Stephens are unique in Australia and the only commercially permitted wild dolphin swim in NSW, with the short beaked common dolphins and oceanic bottlenose encountered on the swims reportedly more excited to swim with humans who can keep up with them than those who just sit still in the water on other dolphin swims around Australia and overseas.
The four-hour dolphin swim cruises run September to May on weekends from 5.20am at the d’Albora Marina in Nelson Bay and cost $289 per person, including wetsuits, snorkelling gear and breakfast). The cost for observers on the cruise is $60. For all swims in September, 2016, each person will receive a free USB containing a customised video (valued at $65) of their intimate encounter with the dolphins.
