STA Travel introduces CashFlex – A new way of using money overseas and being rewarded for it

April 1, 2014 Financial No Comments Email Email

STA Travel Australia today launched its new Visa prepaid travel card, CashFlex, to give travellers the ability to make transactions in any country without the need to carry local currency.

Available from April 2nd 2014, a CashFlex prepaid card is free and offers cashback on purchases made at STA Travel stores*.

An evolution from the travellers’ cheques of the past, prepaid travel cards are rising in popularity in Australia. According to the Research and Markets Prepaid Cards Global Strategic business report, the Asia Pacific is the fastest growing regional market for prepaid travel cards because of their added convenience, flexibility and security. Taxi cab in Times Square, New York City

In addition to being able to access cash anywhere in the world, travellers with CashFlex can enjoy the added bonus of 3% cashback on purchases made at STA Travel stores or online with the card while overseas, or when booking your next trip, it is ideal for travellers on a tight budget.

Natalie Placko-Thornton, STA Travel’s Marketing and e-Commerce Director says the card, which deposits cashback funds into your account within seven days, unlike the standard 30 days on most other cards, is the fastest cashback offer on the market.

“It is perfect for travellers who are trying to save money, with the cash back in your account within a week, you have the funds handy to spend on other things. No one wants cashback when they are back home, you want to enjoy your savings creating new experiences overseas,” she said.

CashFlex has been developed in collaboration with Visa, enabling travellers to access their money anywhere in the world where Visa is accepted, including at ATMs and online. The card enables travellers to load Australian dollars then make purchases in foreign countries or withdraw foreign currency while travelling.

Unlike some other prepaid travel cards, CashFlex is personalised with the user’s name so will be accepted in countries such as the United States where unnamed cards can commonly lead to retailers refusing to accept payment for security reasons. To support unnamed (12)travellers on the road, the CashFlex prepaid card is reloadable, able to be monitored by text or online and provides access to an emergency cash service if you lose your card.

“STA Travel has identified the need to cater to the changing needs of Australian travellers and we’re excited to offer a free, reliable and reloadable card with some added perks,” said Natalie. “CashFlex lessens the need to rely on cash when overseas and gives travellers a real sense of security and flexibility.”

To celeberate the launch of CashFlex, STA Travel is offering travellers the chance to win AUD$1000 when they load spending money on to a CashFlex prepaid card in April 2014.
