Stamford, Connecticut Hotel Turns Meeting Rooms Into Masterpieces

In the face of budget cuts in schools across the country, one hotel is doing its part to ensure the relevance of arts programs in its neighborhood.

The 15 featured artworks were culled from more than 30 submissions and reflect the efforts of students from three public high schools in the Stamford area. This, however, is only the beginning. The hotel includes 22 meeting rooms, which means there is plenty of potential opportunity for aspiring artists to contribute down the road

The Stamford Marriott Hotel & Spa unveiled 15 artworks on permanent display in its meeting space on June 10, 2013 amid students, teachers, the community and plenty of hope that the partnership would expand into the future.

The 15 featured artworks were culled from more than 30 submissions and reflect the efforts of students from three public high schools in the Stamford area. This, however, is only the beginning. The hotel includes 22 meeting rooms, which means there is plenty of potential opportunity for aspiring artists to contribute down the road.

The program complements the hotel’s critical niche within its neighborhood. Located in downtown Stamford, near the I-95 corridor and Chelsea Piers, the Stamford Marriott Hotel & Spa meets both the community’s and travelers’ demands for everything from event space to dining options. Its 9,000-square-foot Grand Ballroom, for example, can accommodate up to 1,000 people. Features like Wi-Fi, exhibition space and teleconferencing and videoconferencing capabilities mean all 27,000 square feet of meeting space can be configured to whatever a group may require, while certified wedding planners are also able to transform these same spaces into inspired, customized event venues.

In addition to meeting space and recently renovated guestrooms, the hotel is home to one of downtown Stamford’s favorite bars: Northern Lights Bar and Lounge. The bar is enjoyed by both local and out-of-town guests who come for lunch and, in the evening, small plates, cocktails and the stylish wine bar.

Enhancing the hotel’s dual position as an asset to the community and a sanctuary for travelers is the Stamford Marriott Hotel & Spa’s Local Student Art Program. With art that transcends its designated decorative function to benefit students, educators, visitors and locals alike, the program itself is something of a masterpiece that will be enjoyed in the years to come.
