Few items are identified with travel and adventure as much as the dependable Swiss Army knife, trusty standby of campers and travellers the world over.
You have to be careful to stow it in your hold baggage, and not leave it in your pocket when passing through the airport security scanner.
Victorinox, makers of the original Swiss Army knife, are organising a number of “micro-adventure days” with an urban outdoors theme in cities around the world to underscore the company’s international reach and support its Spring/Summer 2016 range.
“For each area a bespoke local map will be commissioned, showing the opportunities available both nearby and within easy reach of the city centre,” Victorinox announced last week.
Urban outdoors adventures are activities with an outdoors theme, either in cities or easily accessible from cities. The hashtag is #UrbanOutdoors.
Victorinox makes lots of travel gear, not just Swiss Army knives. Its new Swiss Army knives this year feature a lot of cool designs, breaking the traditionalist mould, just as Switzerland’s Swatch did to the world of watches a decade or two ago.
The rise of the #UrbanOutdoors movement encourages city-dwellers to connect to the open air, both in urban green spaces and with micro-adventures outside the city centre, Victorinox explained at a Sydney event last week at 3 Williams in Redfern.
Victorinox makes tools for the outdoor life, combining style, functionality and versatility. They range from apparel and travel gear to watches and the iconic Swiss Army knives. Spring/Summer 2016 equipment is geared to the urban adventurer.
“The campaign takes its inspiration from some of the great cities of the world, where urban dwellers can find inspiration for outdoor adventures right on their doorstep,” Victorinox said.
“These could take the form of the everyday activity of escaping the hustle and bustle of the London streets for a stroll through Hyde Park, for example, or exploring the vast and beautiful nature area of Hagaparken, just outside Stockholm, for a weekend excursion.”
Victorinox produces and sells high-quality products worldwide: Swiss Army knives, cutlery, watches, travel gear, apparel and fragrances. The company’s headquarters are located in Ibach, Schwyz, in the heart of Switzerland. This is where company founder Karl Elsener first set up his cutler’s business in 1884 and, a few years later, designed the legendary Original Swiss Army knife.
