Star Clippers will be offering a taste of Morocco on its Portugal to Spain itineraries in 2018.  The Royal Clipper will carry 227 travellers on 23 April 2018 from Lisbon to Malaga, experiencing the quintessential Western Mediterranean.

Highlights include:

Bleached white, limestone buildings, intimate alleyways and a mix of traditional architecture and contemporary culture – this is Lisbon. Relax and work on your tan at Portinho Da Arrabida, this delightful small beach offers crystal blue-green waters perfect for swimming and scuba diving. After a day in the sun, enjoy a traditional Portuguese meal at the seafront restaurant Beira Mar. Menu highlights include the fish, caught fresh from the adjacent sea.

Traditionally a centre for sardine fishing, today the city’s old and once bustling fishing docks have been replaced with scenic promenades leading to the quaint tree-lined plazas of the old town. Portimao’s vibrant waterfront is embroiled with lush gardens and open-air cafes. Diving enthusiasts are in for a treat, with coastal waters boasting the world’s largest artificial reef. Open concrete structures attract sea bream, toadfish, crabs, octopuses, shrimps and moray eels.

Explore the medieval alleyways in the gateway to Africa, Tangier. Take a tour of the medina and Kasbah and splurge at the Grand Socco bazaar, where you will find plenty of artisanal goods and a thriving café culture. Feast on authentic Moroccan lunch of tagine, fish chermoula and couscous, washed down with a fresh mint tea. An Aladdin’s cove of treasures and curiosities, the Librairie des Colonnes has been a Tangier institution since 1949. Once a favourite stomping ground for some of the 20th century’s greatest writers, is now a perfect for a spot of book shopping or a book reading.

Coined as “the key to the Mediterranean”, Gibraltar has been a British Overseas territory since 1713 and is an eclectic infusion of British culture and Spanish climate.  Take a day trip to the Rock of Gibraltar. Legend has it Hercules summoned all his strength to push apart the two mountains of Mons Abyla and Mons Calpe, opening a rift between Africa and Europe that still keeps the continents apart to this day. It is here you will find the Rock; home to over 600 plant species and it’s the perfect vantage point for watching the bird migration between Europe and Africa.

Motril, the second largest town in the province of Granada, has a multitude of culturally diverse sites and activities to explore. Explore the Santuario Nuestra Church, a beautiful church well worth the walk, atop a hill with ornately decorated dome ceilings and well-tendered gardens.  Unwind, at Ron Montero distillery and learn about the Spanish rum and the history of “Uncle Paco” and the Montero family before indulging in the different types of rum available. The taster favourite would have to be the hot dark chocolate drink, liberally laced with you guessed it, more rum!

Malaga – Pablo Picasso’s birthplace, with its gothic cathedrals, traditional balconied buildings and historic centre is the last stop on your Mediterranean journey.  Traverse through the narrow, bustling pedestrian streets flanked by traditional and modern bars and shops that appeal to every taste, from the modern chic to contemporary. A favourite spot in the city is the Gibralfaro Castle, offering a stunning view of the city skyline. Cast your eyes up to enjoy a skyline that reflects the city’s eclectic character, church spires jostling for space with russet-red tiled roofs and lofty apartment buildings.

Star Clippers’ Spain and Morocco cruise from Lisbon to Malaga starts from 1,790 per person, double occupancy including port charges, gratuities and 30% Early Booking Saving when you book before 31 January 2018.
