Seoul is spreading the word about its highly-capable convention profile across Asia in a big way this year, with special roadshow events taking place in Singapore and Vietnam, as well as other major industry expos in the region.

It will also engage the US and European markets with return appearances at IMEX America and EIBTM, ensuring that buyers the world over are continuing to discover why Seoul is “Your Complete Convention City”.

Visiting Singapore on June 24th, “Starry, Starry Seoul” was a joint leisure and business events roadshow, offering a full program of information, networking, and entertainment that welcomed 160 attendees, including 130 Singaporean buyers, to discover Korea’s capital at the Grand Hyatt Singapore.starry-seoul21

Organized by Seoul Tourism Organization divisions the Seoul Convention Bureau and Tourism Marketing Team, the event kicked off with a welcome reception that included finger food and a special Korean-themed photo zone for attendees. This was followed by a Travel Mart wherein buyers were able to meet one-on-one with STO staff and 14 Seoul-based business events and general tourism companies, some of which were members of the Seoul MICE Alliance, a partnership of Seoul’s meetings industry stakeholders. These included the Plaza Hotel Seoul, Sheraton Grande Walkerhill, and Holiday Planners Co, Ltd, among others.

There was also a presentation by STO and Korea Tourism Organization staff on Seoul’s business events infrastructure, detailing ongoing plans to significantly expand the city’s current meetings capabilities and attractions

In addition, participants were treated to a Korean-style lunch that included haemul tteokbokki (seafood stir-fried rice cake), japchae (stir-fried glass noodles and vegetables), bulgogi (Korean-style barbecue), and popular Korean rice wine makgeolli, the latter sponsored by the Jangsoo Makkoli distillery. The lunch included a performance by live art performer and fellow Seoul MICE Alliance member The Painters, aka Drawing Show.

The “Starry, Starry Seoul” show will also be traveling to Hanoi, Vietnam on September 30th. Following a similar format, the event is expected to welcome 150 delegates.

Elsewhere, Seoul will be attending several overseas meetings expos during the second half of 2014, beginning with CIBTM in Beijing, China, from September 17-19 and IT&CMA Bangkok from September 30 – October 2.

Later in October, Seoul will make its third appearance at IMEX America from October 14-16, before returning to Singapore for this year’s ITB Asia travel market and expo, taking place on October 29-31. Last but not least will be a return to EIBTM from November 18-20 in Barcelona, Spain, where Seoul’s annual attendance is continuing to boost interest from the European market.

The Seoul Tourism Organization and participating Seoul MICE Alliance members look forward to meeting with attendees of each of the events listed and guarantee an enjoyable and productive experience for all who stop by to discover why Seoul is “Your Complete Convention City”.
