Starwood Hotels & Resorts today announced that close to USD$350,000 was raised from the Run to Give Hotel Charity Runs that took place on 11 October, 2015 across Asia Pacific. Run to Give also marked the kick-off of the month-long campaign, Starwood Cares for the Community Together As One (TAO) for Asia Pacific, Starwood’s annual global volunteer campaign.
“Starwood is committed to ensuring the presence of our hotels helps drive positive and sustainable social and economic impact in the communities in which we operate,” said Stephen Ho, President, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Asia Pacific. “The response for Run to Give is really encouraging – not only did we raise more money this year, but more importantly we had more participants unite together to support the range of meaningful causes of our local charities.”
TAO is Starwood’s annual global volunteer campaign started in 2014, where each hotel and corporate office recognises associates, creates positive action in the community and highlights how volunteerism efforts have made and will continue to make a difference in the communities in which they operate. For the entire month of October, Starwood associates across Asia Pacific took part in 62 community events and volunteered more than 8,500 hours, including the larger Run to Give events. In 2014, Starwood Asia Pacific associates volunteered more than 6,500 hours of community service.
Run to Give is unique in each location and the events were organised by different Starwood properties in various areas across the Asia Pacific region; some collaborating for the first time to organise such a large-scale event. Funds raised in each location benefited a local charity for maximum local relevance and a broader impact with wider reach.
Started in 2014 as individual hotel charity runs, the inaugural event saw an overwhelming response of over 20,000 runners take part in 92 locations across Asia Pacific; raising a total of close to USD$228,000. This year, the run took on the official event name ‘Run to Give’ – chosen amongst close to 500 internal submission entries by Starwood Asia Pacific associates, best representing the spirit of the charity event.
