There are 425 hotels totalling 67,007 rooms Under Contract in the Central/South America region, according to the October 2015 STR Global Construction Pipeline Report. This represents a 5.6% decrease in rooms Under Contract compared with October 2014 but a 15.3% year-over-year increase in rooms under construction. The Under Contract data includes projects in the In Construction, Final Planning and Planning stages but does not include projects in the Unconfirmed stage.
The region reported 30,436 rooms in 187 hotels under construction for the month.
Among the Chain Scale segments, four segments each accounted for more than 15.0% of rooms Under Contract: Upscale (21.1% with 14,112 rooms); Upper Midscale (20.3% with 13,629 rooms); Midscale (20.3% with 13,579 rooms); and Upper Upscale (18.1% with 12,131 rooms).
Three segments each accounted for more than 15.0% of rooms In Construction: Upscale (27.4% with 8,329 rooms); Midscale (19.5% with 5,935 rooms); and Upper Midscale (17.6% with 5,367 rooms).
The Unaffiliated segment accounted for the smallest portion of rooms Under Contract (3.6% with 2,419 rooms) and In Construction (3.8% with 1,145 rooms).
