STR: US Hotel Results For Week Ending 5 September

The U.S. hotel industry recorded positive results in the three key performance measurements during the week of 30 August through 5 September 2015, according to data from STR, Inc.http://www.deevanagroup.com/home.html

In year-over-year measurements, the industry’s occupancy increased 7.5% to 63.6%. Average daily rate for the week was up 6.6% to US$115.73. Revenue per available room increased 14.6% to finish the week at US$73.58.

Monday and Saturday showed the week’s most significant performance increases, primarily due to the shift of Labor Day from 1 September 2014 to 7 September 2015.

Six of the Top 25 Markets reported RevPAR increases of more than 30.0% during the week: San Francisco/San Mateo, California (+45.5% to US$226.58); Atlanta, Georgia (+41.7% to US$70.57); Nashville, Tennessee (+37.8% to US$84.84); Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota-Wisconsin (+33.6% to US$78.31); St. Louis, Missouri-Illinois (+31.3% to US$67.67); and Anaheim/Santa Ana, California (+30.5% to US$101.64). Overall, 18 markets saw a double-digit increase in RevPAR.

New Orleans, Louisiana (-6.4% to US$59.76), and New York, New York (-3.9% to US$215.37), were the only two markets to record a decrease in RevPAR for the week.

Four markets posted ADR increases higher than 15.0%: San Francisco/San Mateo (+33.3% to US$253.87); Atlanta (+22.6% to US$106.26); Nashville (+17.6% to US$121.89); and Denver, Colorado (+15.4% to US$124.25).

New York recorded the only ADR decrease for the week, down 7.4% to US$243.38.

Six markets experienced occupancy increases of more than 15.0%: Minneapolis/St. Paul (+22.9% to 72.6%); St. Louis (+18.4% to 67.0%); Philadelphia, Pennsylvania-New Jersey (+18.0% to 66.2%); Nashville (+17.2% to 69.6%); Atlanta (+15.6% to 66.4%); and Anaheim/Santa Ana (+15.2% to 70.0%).

New Orleans saw the only double-digit drop in occupancy, down 11.0% to 51.4%.
