Strong Industry Response To ATAS Workshops

The third round of the ATAS (AFTA Travel Accreditation Scheme) “Becoming Travel Accredited” workshops is formally launched in Brisbane today, with strong industry support seeing the event oversubscribed.

“This is the result of nine months of intense planning and consultation,” AFTA CEO Jayson Westbury said. “AFTA set out to deliver on our reform objectives of elevating travel industry standards, reducing the burden of compliance and cost on travel intermediaries, and introducing a level playing field while erasing the inconsistencies which existed between state-based licensing requirements.”

“Demand to become ATAS accredited is already high and this national round of workshops will further boost that.”

The workshops are being led by Gary O’Riordan, AFTA General Manager – Accreditation.

“Our focus over these workshops is to ensure there is widespread communication and engagement with travel agents, owners, managers, suppliers, wholesalers and the wider travel industry so that both the industry and consumers can understand the many benefits that come with ATAS accreditation,” Gary said. “We have collaborated extensively and worked with the industry to develop the ATAS solution. We are in the home stretch and are so grateful for the ongoing industry support and feedback.”

ATAS will elevate industry standards while bringing the travel sector into line with the rest of the Australian economy.  The newly introduced scheme delivers consumer protection, criteria-based identification of reputable travel professionals and the necessary flexibility to accommodate the diversity of the travel industry and the way consumers now purchase travel.

Additional ATAS “Becoming Travel Accredited” workshops will be held in Perth (20 May), Adelaide (21 May), Melbourne (28 May) and Sydney (29 May). Anyone interested in attending can register online here.
