The conference included 240 educators from 105 vocational schools and universities across 22 provinces in China. As part of the event, 35 of those educators attended a HIFIA workshop (Hotel Industry Foundations and Introduction to Analytics) led by Duane Vinson, STR VP and assistant director of the SHARE Center. Anthony Zhang, STR Asia Pacific business development manager, provided translation and support for the workshop.
During last year’s CHEI Teaching Conference, 28 instructors received HIFIA certification through a SHARE Center-led workshop.
“We are absolutely delighted to have partnered with STR on bringing the SHARE Center to our Chinese partner schools,” said Carl Winston, managing director of CHEI and program director for San Diego State University’s L. Robert Payne School of Hospitality and Tourism Management. “I have nothing but praise for how responsive STR has been in working with us to make this data understandable and relevant to our faculty in China. This data is invaluable in providing context about lodging performance in Chinese cities. Students are the key beneficiaries from the data as it gives them a ‘leg up’ on their peers as most students are still not exposed to STR’s data.”
The SHARE Center also has supported CHEI’s Regional Teaching Forums for teachers and administrators.
“It has been wonderful to work with CHEI these past few years,” Vinson said. “The passion and professionalism that they are bringing to instructors and professors throughout China is simply remarkable. STR and the STR SHARE Center are proud to be a part of their mission to improve the level of education by providing resources and training to help prepare the next generation of hospitality professionals.”
