Sule Shangri-La, Yangon Launches Designers’ High Tea Series at The Peacock Lounge

Sule Shangri-La, Yangon launches the Designers’ High Tea Series, an afternoon fashion show and tea service, at the hotel’s iconic Peacock Lounge every first and third Saturday of the month, beginning 2 September 2017.

The series combines the artistry of local fashion designers and the hotel’s culinary team.

“We have a number of regular guests who come for high tea at the Peacock Lounge and we wanted to offer something new, not just for the palate. We wanted to recreate the total tea experience,” Executive Chef Roshan Fernando said.

Chef Roshan has revitalised the afternoon tea offer with an exclusive selection that includes Vietnamese Prawn Spring Roll, Mini Smoked Chicken Sandwich, Sugar Cane Dumpling, Coconut Cream Brulee, Green Tea Scone and Jam Cream, among others.

Headlining the series are two of Yangon’s most popular fashion designers, Mogok Pauk Pauk (every first Saturday) and Charlotte Barjou (every third Saturday).

Mogok Pauk Pauk will present her Fairy Godmother (FGM) collection, a reasonably priced acheik longyi line. Accheik refers to the  beautiful, intricately interwoven wave pattern design, said to be a traditional royal design for both men and women. Inspired by the Ayeyarwady River, the acheik is still the design used for longyi worn on the most important social occasions, such as weddings and offering ceremonies.

Bringing a touch of French chic to Yangon is Charlotte Barjou, a French designer who has made Yangon her home for the last three years. Known for her feminine flair, Charlotte has strived to meld her fashion sensibilities with the traditional and conservative preference of the locals. Herself a lover of the traditional Burmese attire, Charlotte has incorporated some of the designs typical in women’s longyis into her Western-style dresses.

Serving as the perfect venue is the hotel’s iconic Peacock Lounge, a long-time favorite amongst locals for small meetings and catch-ups between friends.

Shows are scheduled until March 2018, skipping the month of December. Tickets to the series are at US$15 nett per show and includes high tea. Afternoon tea begins at 2 p.m., while the fashion shows start at 3:30p.m.

The Designers’ High Tea Series counts as its main supporters Carrie Models, Casey and Randy Style Factory and Rich Gems. Brian Jeremiah is the creative director for all the shows.
